Kingston Eats: Jina Sushi

This is a very small restaurant (can sit maybe around 15 people?) that is located away from downtown Kingston area.  It’s a lot closer to West campus and St. Lawrence College.  I lived on west campus for 3 years but I never knew about this place until my 4th year after I moved out from west (that said, I also don’t go out for restaurants in the past).  It’s a bit sketchy when you first arrive because there’s barely anything in that block (maybe just a convenience store, Tim Horton’s and a local pharmacy shop).  I wasn’t expecting much but they really wowed us.  The owner is Korean lady and doesn’t speak English very well, but she is very friendly and nice.  Portion size is very big and quality is good.  I had very good bulgogi here.  Their Americanized sushi rolls are quite delicious, even though I’m not a fan of this type of over-the-top showy rolls that are named after all sorts of North American cities and states (Good maki rolls are like well-crafted sandwiches.  It could get complicated when ingredients add up to 3 or above, but it shouldn’t be a method to mask bad quality ingredients.  The contrasting flavours and textures all come together to create something better together.  The better the ingredients, the better the final result will be).

Very hot and fresh but a bit too greasy

0411 Spicy Salmon Sushi Pizza (Jina)

Spicy Salmon Sushi Pizza
We finally found out sushi pizza is pan-fried/deep fried seasoned rice topped with sushi toppings.  Apparently it was a Toronto invention and is now very popular among this region on North America (including north-eastern US).

0411 Spicy Red Hot (Jina)Spicy Red Hot
Deep fried shrimp, spicy salmon, avocado topped with salmon slices and spicy salmon

0411 Las Vegas (Jina)Las Vegas
Deep fried scallop, deep fried shrimp, BBQ eel, cream cheese, crabmeat, and avocado, cucumber topped with salmon, tuna, white fish and avocado
I don’t like to have cream cheese in rolls, but because the roll was warm, the cream cheese (and avocado together) added a nice creamy texture to the bite.0411 Spicy red hot, Black dragon, French kiss (Jina)Spicy Red Hot
