Kingston Eats: The Iron Duke on Wellington

Iron Duke is a nice pub with lots of seating available.  The place was built in 1852.  There are also quite a lot of booths and tables so you get some privacy.  Food was good, and the restaurant emphasizes local products.  I think Iron Duke is an interesting gastro pub that offers everything from traditional pub fare to innovative cuisine (also very pricery for bar fare).  The menu includes everything from basic British cuisine to appetizers and entrées that comes with an international twist.   (Can’t comment on the drinks because I don’t drink alcohol.)  However it was just strange to leave a pub after an entrée with kind of an empty stomach 😕  In general I wouldn’t mind to come in and sit down for a nice lunch or dinner special.  You couldn’t really find fault with most of the menu and food, but I also don’t think it’s a top-notch pub.

0411 Braised Lamb Poutine (Iron Duke)Braised Lamb Poutine
Slow braised lamb shoulder, fresh cheese curd, Yukon gold fries and gravy, topped with crumbled feta.
X said it’s good but a bit too lamby.

0411 Duck Confit (Iron Duke)Duck Confit
Crispy confit local duck leg on braised red cabbage with andouille sausage, peppers & roast potatoes.
It was good, but I definitely had better duck confit in Le Chien Noir.  It’s not a heavy entrée.

0411 Cherry Pie (Iron Duke)Cherry Pie
