Kingston Eats: Bread & Butter Bakery & Fine Pastries

It’s located near Gardiner’s Centre and far away from downtown area.  This is one of the finest pâtisserie in Kingston.  Their dessert is as good as desserts you can order from a restaurant (not dirt cheap but at a fraction of the price).  I appreciate that the owner uses seasonal and local ingredients.  Everything is baked fresh in the morning.  It’s a small shop but there is quite a variety of food to choose from: bread, baked goods, sweet bites, and a savoury menu.  This is quite a gem in Kingston.

0511 Pizza (Bread & Butter)Pizza
Mushroom, onion, green pepper, bacon, cheese
I wouldn’t call this pizza.  A focaccia-like pizza suits this bread better.  The bread is very good, although I wouldn’t classify it as pizza dough.  However I did find it on the oily and salty side.  Overall it was a very well made focaccia.

0511 Opera cake 1 (Bread & Butter) 0511 Opera cake 2 (Bread & Butter)

Opera
A square of layered almond sponge cake, mocha buttercream, and chocolate ganache.  Flavoured with amaretto and coffee liquers.  For coffee and chocolate lovers only!

0511 Blueberry Tart 2 (Bread & Butter)0511 Blueberry Tart 1 (Bread & Butter)

Blueberry Tart
Fresh blueberry filling with custard layer at the bottom
I thought it might be oversweet but it was just right.  The crust was nice.
