I was pleasantly surprised to find this close to passover in Costco.

Kingston Eats: Aroma Restro Wine Bar

The server was very good and gave lots of helpful and insightful suggestions.  Food was very good and the price is reasonable.  The restaurant is big with lots of seating and has a very nice atmosphere.  The desserts are a must try – one of the top desserts served in restaurants here.

Citrus crème brûlée
This is a very well made crème brûlée.  The sugar layer was thin and cracked nicely.  The inside was very creamy pudding-like.  It also didn’t taste like eggy custards.

0411 Turkish Baklava with Vanilla Gelato (Aroma)Turkish Baklava with Vanilla Gelato
The baklava was not as sweet and buttery rich as the usual baklava we have.  However it seemed to be a nice healthier version (with the dates and nuts).  The gelato stole the whole dessert.  It had such a strong burst of vanilla flavour.  Their gelato is one of the best I’ve ever had.

0412 Gelato (Aroma)Gelato
Raspberry, vanilla and chocolate

Kingston Eats: Aquaterra Restaubistro

Arguably one of the finest restaurants in Kingston.  This restaurant has won many awards.  Located inside the Radisson hotel, it was hard to find at first.  Luckily we eventually found the entrance to Aquaterra.  Try to pick a nice day to be there, the restaurant faces Lake Ontario and has a very great view.  Aquaterra has very nice designs and the food is superb.  You can get a very good deal with the prix fixe menu available I think.  There is also complimentary parking.

℘ Aquaterra is a member of “Local Food Local Chef”, a Kingston initiative to promote the area as a destination of culinary tourism.

℘ Recommended in Where to Eat in Canada and a recipient of the VQA Award of Excellence.

Kingston Eats: The Raging Bull Chophouse

The Raging Bull is one of the waterfront restaurants that have been in Kingston for over 30 years.  It’s a steakhouse and serves a range of Mediterranean affairs.  Overall food was quite good and the meat cuts were of very good quality (and they cook it very well).

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤

Heaven on a Bun, served with fresh cut fries

  • our sandwiches are made with artisan breads, which are sprinkled with sea salt, fresh ground pepper & love
  • certified angus rib eye, served on ciabatta
  • the finest sandwich this side of St. Peter’s gate

The steak was cooked to order 🙂 Meat was tender and juicy.  Wish there were more vegetables though.

0711 Pork Calvados (The Raging Bull)Pork Calvados

  • Thick juicy pork chop served on a bed of apples with a calvados apple brandy sauce; mmm pork
  • served with vegetables & baked potato

It’s a really thick cut but was well cooked.  Comment on this dish: this steakhouse really knows how to cook their meat.

Kingston Eats: River Mill Restaurant

This located in a 125-year old mill and sitting next to the waterfront.  I picked this restaurant for a very special occasion.  They’re supposed to be a pianist on Saturday night but the pianist never showed up 😐  The restaurant tries to incorporate as much local products as possible.  The food was pretty good and fresh.  It’s not a bad place for a special dinner, but I also want to point out that there are other excellent fine dining options in the downtown area.

0711 Roasted Red Pepper Soup (River Mill)Roasted Red Pepper Soup
It’s a very thick soup

It was a very refreshing salad.  The feta wasn’t too salty and didn’t overpower the salad.  The watermelon was fresh and crisp.

0711 Salmon Blini (River Mill)Salmon Blini
In house smoked salmon gravlax, potato blini and sour cream coulis, garnished with fried shallots
Very rich but fresh.

0711 Duck Salad (River Mill)Duck Salad

Neither of us expected a whole duck leg to be served 😆 (we thought they night skimp on the ingredients and just shred some duck meat in the salad). It was good

0711 Veal chops (River Mill)Veal chops
Pan-seared veal chops, whiskey reduction, house mash and seasonal vegetables
It was very moist and tender, also very flavourful.
