Kingston Eats: River Mill Restaurant

This located in a 125-year old mill and sitting next to the waterfront.  I picked this restaurant for a very special occasion.  They’re supposed to be a pianist on Saturday night but the pianist never showed up   The restaurant tries to incorporate as much local products as possible.  The food was pretty good and fresh.  It’s not a bad place for a special dinner, but I also want to point out that there are other excellent fine dining options in the downtown area.

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤
Price range: $$-$$$$

0711 Roasted Red Pepper Soup (River Mill)Roasted Red Pepper Soup
It’s a very thick soup

0711 Feta and watermelon salad (River mill)Feta and watermelon salad
It was a very refreshing salad.  The feta wasn’t too salty and didn’t overpower the salad.  The watermelon was fresh and crisp.

0711 Salmon Blini (River Mill)Salmon Blini
In house smoked salmon gravlax, potato blini and sour cream coulis, garnished with fried shallots
Very rich but fresh.

0711 Duck Salad (River Mill)Duck Salad
Crispy skin duck leg, arugula salad, cranberries, spiced pecans and raspberry vinaigrette
Neither of us expected a whole duck leg to be served😆 (we thought they night skimp on the ingredients and just shred some duck meat in the salad). It was good

0711 Veal chops (River Mill)Veal chops
Pan-seared veal chops, whiskey reduction, house mash and seasonal vegetables
It was very moist and tender, also very flavourful.

0711 Lemon Sabayon (River Mill)Lemon Sabayon
A sweet, tart custard garnished with seasonal fruit

0711 Crème brûlée (River Mill)

Crème brûlée
Traditional vanilla custard with a torched sugar crackle
