Boston Eats: Toscanini’s Ice Cream

✣ Top pick ✣

Ice cream is very creamy and well churned.  Besides the old school flavours they also have a lot of other creative flavours.  Burnt caramel, goat cheese brownie, ginger snap molasses, earl grey and more (check the chalk board).

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤❤
Price range: $

Khulfee (cardamom, chopped almonds & pistachios)
Slow churned ice cream blended very well with the chopped cardamon and nuts.  It’s not too overpowering but it’s definitely very cardamom-y.

I don’t know how to describe this because saffron is such an expensive spice I hardly use it in cooking.  It’s a very subtle but yes you can definitely feel the burst of saffron in each creamy bite.  And yes you can actually find strips of saffron in the ice cream.  I really really liked this one.

Boston Eats: Iggy’s Bread Ltd

✣ Top pick ✣

Bought their product from the Copley Square Farmer’s Market.  There is a wide range of product.  Bread is fresh and well-crafted.  Pastries are also top-notch.  It’s a bakery that you shouldn’t miss when in Boston.

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤❤
Price range: $

Multi-seeded bread stick
It was very big in size.  Well-crafted artisan bread that’s fresh and flavourful on its own.

Honey pecan sticky bun
I was surprised a sticky bun can taste so good.  It was flaky with just the right amount of honey.  Not sticky to eat with hand and still gives you that sticky chewiness in the mouth.  The nuts gives a nice crunch to the bun.

Boston Eats: 163 Vietnamese Sandwiches & Bubble Tea 越南面包

It’s a small to-go shop.  They’re quite efficient to keep the line moving.  Didn’t try their bánh mì though.  Food is good and super cheap.

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤
Price range: $

BBQ chicken with sticky rice 烤雞肉糯米飯
This is one of their box meals priced at 2.75.  It is quite small but afterall it is very cheap.  Food was well made.  Only complaint is the poor quality of the plastic container.  It’s a very cheap type and soya sauce was leaking through it.

Red Bean with Bubble 紅豆珍珠
Glad that it’s made from red bean purée.

Boston Eats: Woody’s Grill & Tap

Amazing wood fired pizza with a good thin crust made from a good dough and wasn’t crackery.  It could get too burnt sometimes so it depends on your luck.  They were very heavy handed on the cheese, if you happened to watch the pizza making process you’d realize they piled up a huge mountain of cheese before putting in the brick oven.  It’s amazing how it all melted and stayed within the boundaries of the pizza crust, and the pizza wasn’t greasy at all despite the amount of cheese being piled up.  Their toppings were good and fresh (some items such as sausages were made in-house).

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤

White Clam (Woody’s)
White pizza with mozzarella, romano, littleneck clams, bacon & oregano
Very flavourful pizza in each bite.

Boston Eats: Pizza Pie-er

Pizza Pie-er is a self-served shop.  It’s not fancy restaurant (they do have interesting décor), but I’m glad to find a place that doesn’t make greasy American pizza.  Their pizza is good and they also incoporated many healthy choices on the menu.  I’m pleasantly surprised that their multi-grain crust was a good piece of thin bread, not some dried out hard cracker.  Topping is also fresh and good.

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤
Price range: $-$$

Gourmet shrimp & broccoli. Our signature cheese blend & Alfredo sauce on multi-grain crust.
Shrimp and brocoli was quite fresh but on the salty side.  The cheese was creamy and there was the right amount of sauce so nothing was dripping when you eat it.  The crust was good and supported all the toppings.

Boston Eats: Phở Pasteur

Portion is generous and price is reasonably cheap.  Service is fast and food is solid.  The restaurant is big so there are many available seatings.

Phở Xe Lửa
Beef Noodle Soup (X-large Bowl)
A special combination with rare steak, well-done flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe
It’s big and would definitely fill you up.  The broth was tasty but not as rich as I’d like it to be.  They also didn’t skimp on the meat.  I was still able to find meat when I was almost finished with the whole bowl.

Đâu đó dừa
Shake of red bean with coconut
From purée and was very thick.

Boston Eats: Neptune Oyster

It’s a very popular and crowded restaurant to be prepared to wait in line (I came at 11:20 before the store even opened and there was already a line).  Only got to try their hot lobster roll, and it was really good.  The soft toasted roll is seeped with the garlic butter (it was good, but maybe too much in my opinion) and topped with fresh lobster meat.  The thin crispy fries were also very good (and seasoned with pepper!).

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤
Price range: $$-$$$

I didn’t like their crackers served before the meal.  They were large pebbles of water crackers, so it was very hard, dry and cold.  It was probably better to eat with soup.

Maine Lobster Roll
Toasted roll, hot with butter, served with fries
Chunks of fresh lobster meat that is only lightly coated with a citrus pepper sauce.
