Kingston Eats: Aroma Restro Wine Bar

The server was very good and gave lots of helpful and insightful suggestions.  Food was very good and the price is reasonable.  The restaurant is big with lots of seating and has a very nice atmosphere.  The desserts are a must try – one of the top desserts served in restaurants here.

This is a very well made crème brûlée.  The sugar layer was thin and cracked nicely.  The inside was very creamy pudding-like.  It also didn’t taste like eggy custards.

0411 Turkish Baklava with Vanilla Gelato (Aroma)Turkish Baklava with Vanilla Gelato
The baklava was not as sweet and buttery rich as the usual baklava we have.  However it seemed to be a nice healthier version (with the dates and nuts).  The gelato stole the whole dessert.  It had such a strong burst of vanilla flavour.  Their gelato is one of the best I’ve ever had.

Kingston Eats: Aquaterra Restaubistro

Arguably one of the finest restaurants in Kingston.  This restaurant has won many awards.  Located inside the Radisson hotel, it was hard to find at first.  Luckily we eventually found the entrance to Aquaterra.  Try to pick a nice day to be there, the restaurant faces Lake Ontario and has a very great view.  Aquaterra has very nice designs and the food is superb.  You can get a very good deal with the prix fixe menu available I think.  There is also complimentary parking.

Kingston Eats: The Raging Bull Chophouse

The Raging Bull is one of the waterfront restaurants that have been in Kingston for over 30 years.  It’s a steakhouse and serves a range of Mediterranean affairs.  Overall food was quite good and the meat cuts were of very good quality (and they cook it very well).

My ratings: ❤❤❤❤

  • our sandwiches are made with artisan breads, which are sprinkled with sea salt, fresh ground pepper & love
  • certified angus rib eye, served on ciabatta
  • the finest sandwich this side of St. Peter’s gate

The steak was cooked to order 🙂 Meat was tender and juicy.  Wish there were more vegetables though.

0711 Pork Calvados (The Raging Bull)Pork Calvados

  • Thick juicy pork chop served on a bed of apples with a calvados apple brandy sauce; mmm pork

Kingston Eats: River Mill Restaurant

This located in a 125-year old mill and sitting next to the waterfront.  I picked this restaurant for a very special occasion.  They’re supposed to be a pianist on Saturday night but the pianist never showed up 😐  The restaurant tries to incorporate as much local products as possible.  The food was pretty good and fresh.  It’s not a bad place for a special dinner, but I also want to point out that there are other excellent fine dining options in the downtown area.

Kingston Eats: Windmills Café

Windmills is one of the classic and classier restaurants in Kingston.  The environment is nice.  Good food and the menu is very creative and versatile, you can expect to see a wide range of cuisines on the menu and the daily specials.  Make sure you have room for dessert.  Brunch is quite well known in Kingston apparently.  However atmosphere isn’t too nice.  Service isn’t too good either (one time they just ignored us).

Kingston Eats: The Grizzly Grill

Grizzly Grill is a mix of a grill and pub restaurant.  It’s very big so it can accommodate many large companies.  The first time we came here there were over 40 of us (floor event with all the exchange students in my third year).  I ordered a smoked salmon appetizer and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity for the amount I paid for.  On the other hand, X hated Grizzly Grill, and I also heard many negative comments from other floormates.  Came back another time with Faye and we both had a very good meal.  I do think Grizzly Grill is on the expensive side and a bit overpriced.  They do serve “exotic” (in context of North American shores anyway) entries including alligator, swordfish, ostrich etc.

Kingston Eats: Chez Piggy Restaurant & Bar

Who has not heard of Chez Piggy and Pan Chancho in the Kingston area?  I do love Pan Chancho very much 🙂 Chez piggy has a charming patio (well decorated according to season, and the tree blossoms in spring) and the restaurant is built in a former limestone stable.  Despite having two floors, the restaurant is fully packed at lunch and dinner times.  Just like windmills and Pan Chancho, the diverse menu has notes from many different cuisines.  I think the food was good in general – I might have been expecting a bit more for all the hype about it – I don’t think it was fabulously outstanding but they were solid good food.  I also don’t like that the bread basket was served cold.  I do think Chez Piggy has a very nice and warming atmosphere, so it maybe a lovely restaurant to come for special occasions and enjoy the food. However I do want to say it’s overpriced for what you get.  P.S. You can buy their cookbook 😉
